Threads explores Chinese American adoption through publication design, handmade book binding, and Chinese paper cut art. The work was exhibited at George Mason University for their Exit/Enter show.
By tying together the creator’s personal experience with historical records, interviews, photography, and illustration, Threads becomes an immersive, interact-able testament to the Chinese American adoptee experience. The project draws on modern and historical Chinese and Western art and design, depicting the duality of adoption and the adoptee identity. As a result, viewers are invited to learn about, and reflect on, lived experiences that may differ from their own.
